I enjoyed reading "French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level" quite a bit. I used to take French classes back in school, but it's been a while since I've really delved into the language so I've gotten rusty. This was a nice refresher on basic French, while also providing the reader with a score of new words and phrases.There were two things I really appreciated about this book; the first is that all of the new vocabulary words were bolded throughout the story, and at the end of the paragraph or page, the words would actually be defined so you could see what a new word meant right away.The second thing I enjoyed about the structure of this book is that the audio content is read at slow and normal speeds, allowing the reader to pick the speed they want to hear the story. This was particularly helpful to me since listening to it slowly the first time around allowed me to recall past French knowledge more easily.All in all, I would recommend this for intermediate-level French learners, or individuals who are looking for fun and quick short stories in French!
This book was very easy to use. I took two years of French in high school, but haven’t read or spoken it much since then. This was a nice refresher. The stories are interesting and the not overly complex sentences are helpful since I’m not exactly a beginner but haven’t studied French in a few years. The paragraphs are divided by short glossaries of French words that show up in the paragraph which makes it easy to read and comprehend without having to stop to translate words in a search engine or dictionary. Also, the slow reading audio option is very helpful in understanding how to accurately pronounce words in French. Most of the time, like with the books I used in high school, the audio is at an average speaking speed or just barely slowed down which makes it difficult to understand exactly how combinations of letters sound together. The cute illustrations at the beginning of each story is a nice added touch.
This is an excellent book for intermediate French learners! As an intermediate French speaker who has forgotten a large chunk of my vocabulary, reading and listening to this book was a great way to refresh my memory. The vocabulary words that follow each paragraph in the text make it incredibly easy to listen and/or read the book without having to get a dictionary or do a google search for new words every time. In addition, the stories themselves are engaging and provide a glimpse on the French culture as well as an understanding of various day to day topics like travelling, relationships etc.I also liked the exercise to write a summary at the end of each chapter as it allows the readers to consolidate what they have learnt in the chapter. However, I would have liked for the book to have various different exercises (fill in the blanks, multiple choice etc) to test my understanding of the story rather than just writing summary.Overall, a great book that I would recommend for slightly advanced beginners or intermediate French learners.
This is a brilliant learning tool. The pacing of this book is great it makes learning with it very easy. It provide the students with seven engaging stories, it also teaches them new beautiful words and cultural expressions.This book and its audio content based on stories it keeps you entertained while learning new French words and expressions that can be useful in the daily life situation. I would recommend this as a must read for anyone seeking to learn french.
This book was an enjoyable, short read. Having studied French in the past, I’ve been looking to brush up my skills and keep up with the language as I am neither a beginner nor an intermediate student. This book was great for that! It incorporates all the elements of learning a language by yourself: reading, writing, and listening. I especially enjoyed the vocabulary recaps as it allowed me a refresher on words I had forgotten. This book is fantastic for anyone who has some prior French experience and is looking to keep up their skills. Reading this book reinforced correct verb conjugation for me, which is something I’ve always worked on. Overall, I would highly recommend this for intermediate-level French learners.
